The Secret Heart

This is a heartbreaking film about a girl (Allyson) who idolizes her father and goes into a deep depression when he dies. Her step mother (Claudette Colbert) is unable to help though tries her best and instead of telling her the truth about the girl's father, she propetuates the myth to keep Penny (Allyson) sane.

One of June's most intense works, this film looks at depression and compensating for loss in a direct way. Complicating the story even more, Penny falls in love with her step mother's love interest.
