Two Girls and A Sailor

June's true first feature film role. She co-stars with Gloria DeHaven and Van Johnson. June's key musical number is "Young Man With A Horn" accompanied by Harry James.

Sisters who grow up in show business become involved in having a nightly canteen for the soldiers. They dream of having the empty theatre across the street and one day "Somebody" comes along to be their backer. Could he be a millionaire, a marine, a soldier or a sailor?

Gloria DeHaven plays the younger, "prettier" sister (Jean) and June plays the older sister (Patsy) who pinches Jean along her way. Both sisters find love, but not without misunderstandings and a case of mistaken identity.

Fast facts:

June would later sing "Young Man With A Horn" in The Opposite Sex.

Dick Powell advised June to take the role of Patsy instead of Jean, because nobody would believe that June was the prettier sister. June took his advise seriously and the roles were switched.
