Unsure of the true identity of "Marietta," Nelson sang I'm Falling in Love with Someone, as he rescued her from the mob, who were after the reward money for finding the lost Princess (from Naughty Marietta). Nelson sang Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life for Naughty Marietta as well as a duet with Jeanette MacDonald. Another song from this score is Neath the Southern Moon, a beautiful Nelson Eddy ballad.
Nelson tries to win Jeanette's love in Maytime through one of the most beautiful songs ever written, Will You Remember?
Jeanette MacDonald creeps into the heart of bandit Nelson Eddy and he sings to her Senorita, a beautiful song from the picture Girl of the Golden West. Also this film is Soldiers of Fortune, which is a march and Nelson Eddy was extremely adept at marches. One of the most romantic moments in a Nelson and Jeanette film is when Nelson whips Jeanette around the waist and sings Dance With Me, My Love.
Stouthearted Men was one of Nelson Eddy's standards, which he first sang for the film New Moon. Another haunting MacDonald and Eddy duet is Wanting You, one of their best, also from New Moon.
Nelson recorded one of Jeanette's songs, Smilin' Through from the film of the same title.
In his rendition of In the Still of the Night Nelson shows that he really could take a popular song and give it his own style in Rosalie. Also from Rosalie is the title song.
Through the Years was another wonderful recording, one of my favorites.
The Indian Love Call as sung with Jeanette MacDonald is the duo's most memorable duet. Seargent Bruce is Eddy's most enduring and rememberable role in Rose Marie. The title song Rose Marie is one of my favorites, Nelson Eddy sings to Jeanette in a beautiful Canadian back drop, canoe, moonlight, and all. Nelson accidently replaces Rose Marie with another name and the fun starts. Just For You is a sweet Nelson song, too.
Last but not least, there's White Christmas. Bing Crosby may have sold the most records of his version of the song (which is hard to beat), but Nelson Eddy has an emotional touch that even Bing cannot seem to touch in my mind.
From Balalaika, At The Balalaika. Nelson croons to tear your heart out in this soulful ballad. He also does a wonderful version of The Toreador Song in this film and The Song of the Volga Boatman.
Nelson and Jeanette dream of being successful with Dear Little Cafe when in poverty. One of my favorite duets from Bittersweet. Bittersweet had marvelous songs by Noel Coward, another is I'll See You Again. Yet another is the rousing Tokay.
In The Chocolate Soldier, Nelson stars opposite Met Opera star Rise Stevens and together they sing Happy Wedding Day.
Nelson was extremely popular on the radio and one of the hundreds of songs that he sang for his programs was You'll Never Walk Alone from Carousel. Another one of these songs is The Old Refrain. One of his most popular radio and concert pieces is When I Grow Too Old to Dream. One of my favorite songs is With A Song In My Heart and I was so excited to see Nelson took the task of singing that, too! Another favorite is You And The Night and the Music. No radio montage would be complete for Nelson Eddy without Shortnin' Bread.
