I Married an Angel (1942)

A man who is jostled into finding a wife through family tradition and guilt, has a dreams where he meets an angel--a real one.

Banker Willie Palaffi (Nelson Eddy) is forced to go to a party where every available bachelorette in Budapest tempts the count into marrying them. He escapes from the party after what he found an unfortunate experience with one of his naive employees (Jeanette MacDonald) and has a dream about meeting a woman who is at her core, the furthest thing from someone who isn't manipulative and demanding--as he feels all women are. His dream woman is angel (Jeanette MacDonald) and she goes from selfless and quite ill-educated about the status quos of society to the type of woman he wants to run away from.
