Well- a few years ago, I was on my Fred Astaire "kick" (now I'm on a Phil Harris kick!- but anyways let me continue!) - and I basically watching all of Fred's Musical films, and I came across "Broadway Melody of 1940" - And fell in love with Ellie's amazing dancing skills, and the cuteness of her shy style of acting. Now I have seen most of Ellie's films and love her all the more. She is THE BEST tap dancer ever! I love looking at the photos of her on ebay (and trying to win a bid every now and then). Ellie was a wonderful dancer and person:-)

when as a child, i love tap dancing began lesson at the age 3 yrs, i alway heard about ms. powell and how everyone said she was the greatest. the first time i saw born to dance, i was awe struck, by her talent. i have to stay i.ve stole a few step her and there. as a dance teacher, i,ve always told my class about her, and how they should see her movies, to help them understand, what tap is. IT Allways paid off, in class they smile more,as they dance. SHE WAS AND STILL IS THE GREATEST TAP DANCER EVER...........

i was about seven or eight years old when i saw my first eleanor powell movie. it was oner her best, "Born to Dance". i love the sound of her taps and the way she moved overall. she was so beautiful and classy. there is no one in my opinion that is a greater dancer than eleanor today or ever. that is the reason i took dance lessons, and why i still dance. and started creating myown dances. she kept dancing well into her fifties.
now that the broadway melody of 1940 is on dvd, a whole new generation can watch what real dancing and hard work adds up to.
It adds up to Eleanor Powell : )

Always used to fancy myself as a combination of Eleanor Powell, Ginger Rogers and Shirley Temple as a kid, tapping and whirling about with Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly. Those days are gone forever but it's still fun to watch them..they are forever young and lovely.

I can't stress enough how much Eleanor Powell has inspired me to tap dance. She has this air when she dances that can't compare to any other. Fred Astaire was alright but even he was intimidated by her. She was a charming dancer that could have your eyes on her for ages and ages, at least once I day I make reference to the Queen of Tap!!!
