Has anyone seen the colorized version of BACHELOR MOTHER? I only have the movie in black and white. If so how does it look in color? Are the colors realistic?

There's a Bachelor Mother in color?! I never knew that! I've only seen the black and white. I know this doesn't answer you're question, lol, but I had to reply...I seriously didn't know of a color version.

*Is now quite determind to find the color version and watch it* skippy.gif

Yes, that makes two of us, as much as I love classic movies in black and white I'm hopeful that before long advances in computer technology will make it possible to convert all black and white movies into color, even if the colors are not completely accurate to the original, also I think that 3-D enhanced classic movies might be a possibility too with computer technology embossing film to create the 3-D effect. Last week I read in my newspaper than within the next five to ten years it will be possible to watch any movie from a huge database via ITTV, in crystal clear quality on our TV screens. So it looks like The sky's the limit(Hey, thats a great movie too with sweet Joan Leslie!).

Heres a picture of Ginger singing ' Let yourself go ' notice the background singers, among them the then unknown Betty Grable(Unknown but still as cute as a button!)

I'm the opposite, i don't like b&w movies being enhanced by computers to add colour, it takes away the whole classic look away from it IMO. I would still love to see the b&w version of Bachelor Mother though! wink.gif

Yes, I know exactly what you mean, I often turn the color off movies to see how they play in black and white, its fun to experiment whatever the format, one of my fave things is to enlarge the picture on a Dvd and then shift the angle to one side or the other, its amazing what a difference that can make to viewing a movie, its almost like being on-set at times, musicals are fantastic to watch with the picture enlarged, all the action flies in and out of view and it can be quite an experience to be so close to the performers, kind of like being on stage.

I just bought the 'major and the minor/batchelor mother' dvd today and the batchelor mother film was in colour!
I was quite annoyed actually because you would have thought that if something was brought out on DVD as a 2 disk for £16.99 then it would have the origional verson of the film on it.
I have to say the colourization isn't that bad from what I've seen but it kind of puts me off from watching the rest of the film because it isn't the origional.

It said before the film started as well something like: 'this is a colorised version of a film that was origionally distributed in black and white. This copy hasn't been approved by the people who origionally made the film' taz.gif

ohmy.gif Have you watched The Major and the Minor yet? If so, how's it look in terms of picture quality? I'm dying to have it on DVD but the price for these two films together (less than 6 pounds at Amazon UK!) seems suspiciously low.

I don't care for the classic movies remade in color. Just me. Love watching them how they were
orginially. Color seems to take away from the movie, somehow. IMO.

Bachelor Mother in colour is an interesting idea. Hopefully colour does not take away from the story. I bought two classic movie compilations a few years ago and one of them had Second Chorus in black and white and one had it in colour. The colour was horrendous on the colour version and I only got through a few minutes before turning it off. It sounds like the colour version of Bachelor Mother is better though. It would be interesting to see one day.

Bachelor Mother in colour is available via the magic of YouTube - watch it quick before those spoil-sport copyright police take it down!

I thought it was pretty obvious in some places that it was colourised, but it wasn't garish. Ginger's lipstick was the same colour as her hair at some points, which was slightly distracting!

What a sweet film it was! I wants a baby. Like, now. dry.gif

I've just watched "Bachelor Mother" and I now realize that this is one of Ginger's better performances. She is extremely witty and her back and forth banter with David Niven is just great. There are several close-ups of her and her face is flawless with such a warm smile, she will always remain my favorite actress.
