Books About Judy
By Katie
Andrist
For all the bookworms out there are so
many great books to read on the life of Judy Garland. I have read
almost 20 of the biographies on her life. Sure the basic story
is in each book, but it is the way the writer tells the story
that makes it interesting.
Judy Garland: Brad Steiger
Published: 1969
This book tells about what kind of person Judy was through horoscopes
and handwriting. It also has pages on her movies and who was in
them and what each one was about.
Rainbow’s End the Judy Garland Show:
Coyne Steven Sanders
Published: 1990
This book is all about the Judy Garland show. It goes show by
show and tells you about the guest and the behind the scenes.
It is fun to read each chapter and then watch the show.
Get Happy: Gerald Clarke
Published: 2000
This is not one of my favorite books I have read on Judy’s
life. I barely finished the book. I would not recommend this book
to any Judy fan.
Rainbow: Ethlie Ann Vare
Published: 1998
This book is made up of articles written on Judy’s life
and career.
Beyond the Rainbow: Sheridan Morely and Ruth Leon
Published 1999
This is a Gorgeous book! It has 168 pages of which most have beautiful
glossy pictures of Judy.
Judy Garland the Golden years: Rita Piro
Published: 2001
I love the books she has written on Judy’s life. They are
always full of wonderful pictures and she tells the story that
you just know is true when you read it!
Making of the Wizard Of Oz: Aljean Harmetz
Published: 1998
This is not really a biography but it does give insight on to
the movie that launched Judy’s career.
Me and My Shadows: Lorna Luft
Published: 1998
This is the book that got me hooked on Judy in the first place.
I have read this book twice and I laughed and cried in all the
same places. It is a very good book because it was written by
some one that was there. It should be read by all Judy fans.
Judy In Celebration: Rita Piro
Published: 2002
This book is kind of hard to find. Although it is by far one of
my favorite books written on Judy’s life. There are so many
pictures in this book that I had never even seen before. If you
can find this book buy it!
Judy: The Films and Career of Judy Garland:
Morella and Epstein
Published: 1969
This book was very interesting one because most of it was written
before she died. Only once in this whole book do they mention
that Judy died. So when you read it the book it is like she is
still alive.
Judy and Liza: James Spada
Published: 1983
This is a lovely book on Judy as a mother. The book also has many
great pictures.
The Complete Judy Garland: Emily R. Coleman
Published: 1990
This book is like the Judy Garland Bible. Any thing you ever need
to know about her movies, music, TV appearances and concerts are
all in this book.
Judy Garland World’s Greatest Entertainer: John Fricke
Published: 1992
This is another one of those glossy picture books. Plus with a
lot of pictures you won’t find other places.
JUDY: Gerold Frank
Published: 1975
This has to be my all time favorite Judy Biography. I love this
654 page book so much that I am reading it a third time. This
is the only author that had full cooperation of her family.
Judy Garland Day by Day chronicle of a
Legend: Scott Schechter

If you want to know every detail of Judy’s life it is in
this book.
Shout Sister Shout: Roxane Orgill
