Presenting Lily Mars (1943)
A young aspiring actress hitchhikes to Broadway and learns the heartache and thrill of the stage when she is able to be cast in a bit part in a show.
After many ploys to get producer John Thornway (Van Heflin) to take her acting seriously when he comes back home to her Indiana small town, Lily Mars (Judy Garland) follows him to Broadway and manages to 'pop up' in the Thorway theater and convince him to cast her in a small role. When the lead takes a powder on on Thornway, he looks to Lily as a potential leading lady and trains her in the part.
