The Pirate (1948)
A young girl is placed in an arranged marriage and yearns for a bit of romance she believes could be found with a great pirate like 'Mack the Black' before she marries.
Manuela (Judy Garland) meets an actor in Port Sebastian who is immediately taken with her and later places her in a trance where she sings of her admiration of 'Mack the Black.' The actor (Gene Kelly) takes note and takes the chance to play the role that may win the girl--or perhaps--an actress for his troop of players.

Fast Facts
There is a lot of stigma around this film and many legends, but it's creators were really trying to take the musical to a place it had never gone before. As a result, it was not well-recieved by audiences of the time, but it has enjoyed a slight revival since.
Lines to Remember
Serafin: Senorita, don't marry that pumpkin.
Manuela: Pumpkin?!!

Manuela: I wish you would stop circling me this way, it's like talking to a top!
Serafin: You bewilder me a young girl like you with beauty, youth, enchantment throwing yourself away on a lump like that!
Manuela: He is neither a lump nor a pumpkin!
Serafin: If he had any sense of the fitness of things he should have known he wasn't good enough for you! He would have stepped aside.
Manuela: Stepped aside, for what?
Serafin: For someone who would appreciate you. Like me, for instance
[Manuela laughs]
Serafin: Don't laugh!
Manuela: If I don't laugh I should be very annoyed!
