Fast Facts

Legend has it that Louis B. Mayer was asked which of the girls they should keep at MGM and Mayer said, "the pretty one," and nothing more, so the powers that be chose Judy Garland since Mayer was not exactly specific.

Garland really didn't like opera and often made fun of her time with Durbin in MGM's little red schoolhouse and beyond.

Deanna Durbin went on to a highly successful career with Universal while Garland was relagated to bit parts until 1938.
