Robert Taylor

Not really a musical star, but he did appear in many "Broadway Melody" films with Eleanor Powell and did sing a song in "Broadway Melody of 1936," he was extremely popular during his day, probably equal to or just below that of Clark Gable. Taylor had a nice sweet voice, that always stole his leading lady's heart away.

Cary Grant

Cary Grant (born Archibald Leach) was one of Hollywood's leading males and one of the best comics in film in my opinion, he had the best sense of comic timing, especially among ladies who were extremely funny themselves like Irene Dunne, Ginger Rogers, and Katharine Hepburn. Voted second best classic Hollywood star by the American Film Institute, Cary will probably always be remembered by America and all over the world for his antics and charm.

Clark Gable

Clark Gable was Hollywood's romantic leading man, but not without a sense of humor and fun. Gable would sing in a few of his films and in "Idiot's Delight," with Norma Shearer, he sang "Puttin' On The Ritz." Gable is remembered most for his role of "Rhett" in "Gone With The Wind."

Robert Young

Beloved for his soft and gentle personality, Robert Young worked almost all of his life after Hollywood, even starring in a TV shows called "Marcus Welby, M.D." and "Father Knows Best" Although, I cannot recall a musical in which he sang, Young did appear in many Musical films. My favorites being "Cairo" with Jeanette MacDonald and "Honolulu" with Eleanor Powell.

Gene Raymond

Husband of "Reeljewel" Jeanette MacDonald, Raymond's career also was musical at times and had a fairly good voice that he kept hidden. Raymond's career did not catch on like Jeanette's did, but many of his films are considered classics. Especially the film he was in with the new pair Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, "Flying Down To Rio" and another favorite of mine where co-starred with Jeanette, "Smilin' Through."

David Niven

Charming leading man, if you haven't seen David Niven, watch "Bachelor Mother" in which Niven co-stars with Ginger Rogers. Niven won an Academy Award for Separate Tables in 1958. An infectious personality and a nice one, this man was a genuine gentleman.

Tyrone Power

Part of a line of Hollywood stars, Power was known as the hotheaded swashbuckling leading man and starred with leadings ladies such as Alice Faye, Norma Shearer, and Betty Grable. His most memorable films were "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and "The Mark of Zorro."

Eric Blore

A supporting actor, but a nice good funny one at that. Remembered for his antics in films with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, one of his best films is "The Lady Eve."

Ronald Colman

From Great Britain, Ronald Colman started out as a silent star and was one of the few that made the switch to sound films. One of the most chilling Dicken's lines was his in "A Tale of Two Cities": 'It's a far, far better thing I do than I have ever done. It's a far, far better rest I go to, than I have ever known.' Also prominant in his life was 'The Halls of Ivy," a radio show that later was transferred to television.

.

Leslie Howard

British actor who started out in Silent films and is most famous for his role as Ashley Wilkes in "Gone With The Wind." Howard also starred in films in the U.K., he would bounce back and forth. His career was ended abruptly when his plane was shot down in WWII, as a result of his death.

Jack Benny

Radio man, but also appeared in films, which in the case of "The Horn Blows at Midnight" only gave him more material for his jokes. Benny started out in Vaudeville and would later go into Television as well, so he truly was a star of stage, radio and screen.

Frank Morgan

"The Wizard of Oz." His most memorable role, but so many of his others were just as wonderful as he was as "Oz The Great and Powerful."
Rex Harrison

British born and later knighted, started out on his theatre career at age 18, he would continue on stage in between films. Playing Henry Higgins in both the stage play and the film, he won both the Tony and an Oscar for his portrayal. Other films to note are "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" and "Anna and the King Of Siam."
Franchot Tone

Usually cast as the handsome playboy, Tone appeared in films like "Quality Street" and "Dancing Lady," receiving an academy award nomination for best actor for his role in "Mutiny On The Bounty." Along with his film career, Tone was on stage and televsion for some time as well.

Charles Ruggles

Charles was a brilliant character actor, starting in early sound films he was always incredibly funny in co-staring roles. In films such as "Bringing Up Baby" and "The Parent Trap" with stars like Jeanette MacDonald and Mareen O'Hara.

James Stewart

His sweet soft-spoken, man of the people personality, left an impact on the way one views the average American male. Stewart won an oscar for Best Actor in "The Philadelphia Story" along with four academy award nominations and a special academy award.

Van Heflin

Won an oscar for "Johnny Eager" for best supporting actor and appeared in films such as "Presenting Miss Lily Mars," "Madame Bovary," and "Green Dolphin Street." His role in Lily was extremely cute in my humble opinion and he's also grand in "The Feminine Touch."

Robert Montgomery

Norma Shearer hand-picked Robert to Co-star with her in "Private lives" and thereafter was handsome likeable guy in his films. Other careers in entertainment that Montgomery was a part of are director and producer, along with father of daughter Elizabeth Montgomery. ;)

Brian Aherne

Nominated for best actor in a supporting role for "Juarez," this British actor started with silent films and appeared in films like "Smilin' Through" with Jeanette MacDonald and "Sylvia Scarlett" with Katharine Hepburn.

Peter Lawford

Married to Patricia Kennedy and was a member of the Rat Pack, Lawford appeared in a few musicals like "Good News" and "Easter Parade" as well as dramas for MGM, along with the "Rat Pack" films.

Henry Stephenson

Debonair British actor who was usually the voice of wisdom or the stubborn old man -- both completley adorable. Great character actor in films like Two Girls and A Sailor and Down Argentine Way.

Ray Milland

Wonderful British actor who stole hearts in films like The Major and The Minor with Ginger Rogers and Beau Geste.
