Well, sorry for the lack of updates here... goodness! There have been a few and most of them are in the form of fan submissions. My goodness--no mention of those. Speaking of which, if you send a submission of any kind in, please make sure your email address is right. I just got one asking questions about Nelson Eddy. I'll answer them here really quick:
Nelson was English, unsure of the religion though he was a very philosophical fellow and seemed to respect all religions. His eyes were blue and his hair was naturally red, but he went prematurely gray (and he streaked it gray for films) making his hair look blond on film.

Added a new affiliate, believe it or not--it's the Howard Keel Scrapbook. I need stress reduction, so I'll probably make it to the film library on Friday and see if I can find some new jewels of information for you. Maybe some new pictures, too? :) We shall see...October 31, 2003
Happy Halloween! :D
I have treats for you today. First of all a review by Julie on Meet Me In St. Louis. I also have a review by Jamie of"Songs My Mother Taught Me" which talks about the show and Lorna carrying on her mother's legacy.
October 16, 2003
Well, it's barely October 16th here! I do have a couple updates. Fan story pages created for Shirley Jones and Jack Haley. Thanks for sending those in to those who have participated. It's nice to know you're not the only one out there who loves classic films.
I must not forget to mention that this website is three years old now. It was created on October 7th! Wow! :) I didn't recall that date... ;) Thanks, dear viewers, for visiting. I hope this site has contributed something to your lives that is positive and that it has not all been in vain (which of course I know it hasn't!). Oh, speaking of viewers, the message boards have continued to pick up. Check out the postings--lots of interesting topics and you can add more when you become a member. You can glance and (usually post) if you aren't a member as well, but it's just more fun if you are.
Okie dokie -- I decided to make a page on how to log into the message boards and how to do the perks. If any of this looks like Greek to you, go ahead and email me and I'll help to get you set up.
October 13, 2003
Wow! No updates for a month. I'm sorry about that, dear viewers. I've been rather busy with school, but hopefully soon I'll find a good few hours to add more content within the coming weeks. I'm on a break right now and decided to add my favorite new find. To find more information about this book, check out the new page I created for it. I never do this unless I really believe in the product and was not asked to do so by Mr. Fricke or anyone else associated with the book. So, browse around and enjoy the review. |

September 11, 2003
Has it really been two years? I can't imagine how time has seem to both fly and creep slowly at the same time. Well, I most certainly will be thinking about September 11, 2001 today as I'm sure a lot of people will be bombarded by it on television.
I'm back at school now and my schedule is pretty full, but I'll try to update as much as I can and I'm quite sure one of my classes will actually allow me to think about adding more content in one way or another.
Take care, everyone!
September 2, 2003
A Judy Garland article was submitted by the fabulous Miss Em, today. I also updated the sheet music page for Judy so that it actually shows the pieces of music. That would be good, wouldn't it?
Well, a few more updates might come today. Meanwhile...the message board has been pretty active lately, so if you're interested in communicating with other funs, sign up and go to the boards. It's been a lot of fun--thanks guys, for making it work.
August 29, 2003
I have been adding things, just not updating the updates page. I've been cleaning up more code and I added moving images to Shirley Jones and Jack Haley's pages. I just added five galleries of Judy Garland photos, too. I'm going back to school soon, so the updates will most likely slow down for a while, but for now I'm going to continue to add little things and continue the clean up. The Judy Garland pages will probably be added to as well with Sheet Music and Magazine ads. |
August 22, 2003
I'm still debugging, but adding more content while I do so. The most interesting things I've added today was a few excerpts on the quote page from an interview with Irene Dunne after her husband died and in the 70's. I also added Alice Faye and Don Ameche ads. More to come tomorrow! I promise. I've just been doing this for too long today.
August 21, 2003
Looky there! Three updates in a row. I have still been fixing bugs, trying to add new content in between. I did add a couple things today. A few fan tributes for Eleanor Powell, Nelson Eddy, and Jeanette MacDonald. I also added ads for Ginger Rogers and Nelson Eddy. I'll be adding a few more things in a little bit (continuing to post updates as I do this), trying to stay awake to watch more Judy. Anyone else watch Meet Me In St. Louis?
August 20, 2003
Okay, I thought I had linked the fan submissions page yesterday, but apparently I didn't! :) That's most certainly done and I just finished the page on copyrights. Please, if you use any of the material on this website or of thinking about using any of the materials--do read it. It's a whole reference guide of cans and cannots. Trust me, it's pretty extensive. I also added and updated several other sheet music pages which include for the sheet music, Alice Faye, June Allyson, Don Ameche, John Payne, Jane Powell, Jeanette MacDonald, and Ginger Rogers. If that's not enough, there will be more tomorrow probably when I watch the Judy Garland tribute tomorrow on TCM! There will also be a few film ads added as well, along with cleaner links on the index pages. Irene is not being kind! I have to fix her up, too. |

Kim has saved me again! :) Thanks for creating my forms! *gravels, then winks at Auntie Di*
So, what does this mean to the rest of you? More interactivity. I just decided to scatter them throughout the site to make it easier to post your thoughts and ideas. Do use them. I will try to post everything as soon as possible. And I'm sorry the quote pages and the Rhino petition didn't work before. I honestly didn't realize it! I'm still fixing kinks, so hang in there and keep looking out for more material. I might be prompted to scan some more items, particularly sheet music. My collection has grown and I haven't added to any of the pages for a long time.
I will also be adding a couple pages about submissions to the site and such, as well as a more formal copyright page since I have had problems with that lately.
August 18, 2003
Yesterday, I added quotes that I have had stored for a very, very long time! I'm really sorry about that, everyone! So, if you're one of the people that donated to the cause, I did update the quote page and gave credit where it was due. Thanks so much for doing that! Today's job is to fix the forms for the quote pages so that anyone who wants to can donate more. I'm afraid I didn't even know they didn't work! So, I guess I'm still debugging since the end of last April.
August 11, 2003
Lots of updates from yesterday. So many, that I was too tired to update the update page! :) Updated the song pages for Judy Garland, Ginger Rogers, George Murphy, Nelson Eddy, Irene Dunne, Jane Powell, and Jeanette MacDonald. There may be a few that have dead links and these will be fixed in time. I will also be working on getting the Dick Powell page up still, as it seems to have become pretty extensive as well.
Another big change is that this page should now load faster. I split up the updates into years. I can't believe it's been four years since I started! Amazing, feels like half the time. Lets hope my web skills have improved since then. :)
So, there we go. Seems like the updates have gotten longer and more frequent looking at these pages as the years have passed. I'm going to continue adding pictures like the one below, too. Not of me for the most part though!... just to make the page look snazzier.
August 9, 2003
Well, I'm back home from a little side trip to Los Angeles. It was good times. So, I now bring to you a couple updates. The first being that I added a little to the Judy Garland fan tributes section. Another being that I have been continually updating the Nelson Eddy Street information, so if you're interested keep looking back. I am going to do a few other things today, though I haven't decided what yet. I need to have a little bit more content, because I'm never satisfied. Oh! Last week I also again teamed up with Jessica Kort for the Nelson and Jeanette chats and she has graciously made a blog so that the transcripts can be more interactive. Check the chat page for the link. I did more in LA than visit Mr. Horton (and others). I also saw Lorna Luft!! She was amazing, I've seen her before live, but this time she was just even more wonderful--if you get the chance, go see her! |
July 28, 2003
Another one leaves our family. Mr. Robert Hope is certainly one of my favorite people in the world and I've always said I would go into a mass mourning when he passed on or denial. I think I've chosen denial, because he is so alive in my heart. My friends and family are perched on my shoulders waiting for me to crash into tears, however, so I feel like I was the one who died. Long live the memory of Bob Hope and the energy he had in making our lives just feel better to live.
If you would like to post words in Bob Hope's honor, I would love to provide that space for you. Just email me with your kind words and I'll make a tribute if I get enough entries.
A few updates that I've done and haven't mentioned lead to really one thing, Nelson Eddy Street. Information on this gathering is now more solid.
July 11, 2003
A couple small updates for today. Looks like none of the Judy or June movies made it in the AOL/TCM contest for being placed on DVD. So, I pulled the links and information to those down. ::Sigh:: Painful task. I also updated the Nelson Eddy Drive information. If you have no idea what I'm talking about and are looking for an excuse to go to Hollywood, read up! :)
Well, I feel as if I've gotten nothing accomplished, so I think I'll go find an article to type up on somebody. Until then, I shall sign off for now.
July 3, 2003
Well, I'm still on vacation (having a ball, I might add), which is why you haven't seen important updates.
Why is Nelson Eddy's birthday becoming a gloomy day on the calendar? June 29th was of course the anniversary of Rosemary Clooney's death (yes... I'm in denial still) and marked the passing of one of my favorite actresses, Katharine (had mispelled it early to Kathryn Grayson's Kathryn *gasp*) Hepburn. These two ladies have really been vital role models to me in different ways and really it feels as if members of my own family have left and there is a void. These two women were the best in their respective fields. We will celebrate their lives and they will be remembered, if I'm the only keeper of the flame and I know I'm not. These two women were so loved. Other notable people have passed on as well, Buddy Hackett (in The Music Man and other great roles) left us, too.
You will see more updates next week, I would imagine. I hope to continue updating this site heavily throughout the summer. With all the content I'd like to post, I often get sidetracked due to the sheer amount of it all. I might just go for it anyway. :)
Take care!
Ginny
June 20, 2003
Okay, so I can't stay quiet when it comes to Harry Potter. I can't wait for book five to come out and it's only a few more hours! If you're not convinced about these books, every person I've come across that has been a doubter like I was has enjoyed the story line. The books have as much realism to appeal to modern cuture as they do magic to take you away from where you are as appeals to most classic film fans. It's the perfect balance! Well, I shall most definitely be reading at midnight.
Can... not... contain... excitement
June 18, 2003
Hip hip horray! It's Jeanette MacDonald's 100th birthday! You can send the above photo as a card if you'd like. I'd also recommend you visit Jeanette's birthday tribute and see the lovely things people have to say about Miss MacDonald. You can certainly add to them if you'd like. In fact, please do... it would be nice to have a full tribute to Jeanette.
I also added a photo gallery for Jack Haley. Yay! You can see the heart of the Tinman now.
June 15, 2003
Ginny in Newspaper print? Not the first time and maybe not the last, but it's true! :D The Philadelphia Inquirer published an article as a prelude to Jeanette MacDonald's 100th birthday mark. Exciting, isn't it? A public thanks to Carrie Rickey for writing this article on Jeanette. She certainly is worthy of the attention and it's wonderful that her hometown still appreciates her charms.
Yay, Jeanette! Well, I'm traveling again. You can't get me to stay put. I'm off to Michigan to see my family and then off to New York. I'm so excited. You might see a lag on updates during that time. If you have anything you'd like to contribute or would just like to write for any reason, I'll still be checking my email. I'd love to hear from you.
June 10, 2003
Happy birthday, Judy!
Don't forget, if you know any Judy fans, make sure you acknowledge Miss Garland's birthday or they might harm you. My Mother had the audacity to ask why all of Judy's movies were on TCM on today. *wink*
In honor of Judy's birthday, I added a short article. I was hoping to add a longer one, but then I realized I was missing the first half. I might still type it up. It's probably 10 pages long printed. We'll see how it goes if I start typing. You might see a couple more articles, clippings, and a new ads section. I've got a few magazines I haven't extracted these from yet. That should be fun to put together.
I was able to type out the second article. Not quite ten pages, but close enough with eight! :) The entire article may be 16 pages long at that rate. ;)
Happy Judy's birthday! :o) I might still add some clippings after I get a few other things done. Wow, the updates page is getting so long, I might have to start anew.
June 8, 2003
I added a Jeanette MacDonald birthday tribute page. I actually added the page last week, but please do add in your remembrances of Jeanette and how she affected your life.
One person who has affected my life in profound ways is my Auntie Di. She has shown me what it's like to be independent, sweet, and caring. No matter how much my "reel" family grows, I will always appreciate and love my real one. Thanks, Auntie! :)
Tomorrow is the official, say thanks to just one person who has touched your life day as proclaimed by me.
May 29, 2003
Happy 100th Birthday, Bob Hope!
The day has finally come! This man has really given so much to so many, there's no way to pay him back. I wish him the best health *hopes for a turn around* and all the best to his family, friends, and those who love him.
Don't forget to take a look at the tribute, where I've added a few updates and as you might have noticed... there are greeting cards now for almost everyone. Well, I've just added a Bob Hope one to his tribute site. Browse around and keep an eye out for new items.
May 24, 2003
I bet those who have no access to javascript or are Netscape users will be pleased to see that I now have a site map on the main page. I'm assuming that a fair portion of those who voted that they didn't like the new format were a part of this group. I'm terribly sorry about that! Hopefully, that fixes that. There are a few stray pages in between that I need to list, but nothing that you couldn't get to even if you can't use javascript.
I also started a Judy Garland email group on Yahoo. I've been disappointed with other groups out there, because the fans tend to tear each other down. I hope that in creating this one, we start off in the realization that this can occur and vow not to let that happen. Read the information on the front page of the group if you're a Garland fan and decide if you'd like to join. If you can comply with the basic "no flaming" and live up to Judy's empathy quote, our group would more than love to have you around to contribute or lurk.
I've been working on updating the stores as well. Some of them have no new items available and others have some wonderful new finds to be released soon. Be sure to check out for those. :)
Just updated the Alice Faye Songs page. New song clips are available and I might add more later depending on how far I can get on other things.
May 21, 2003
Lots more images added! Yay! I think I'm done adding images for a while, unless I find some really nifty ones. So, I added more to Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald, Ginger Rogers, John Payne, George Murphy, Jane Powell, and Irene Dunne. I think that about covers it. Look in both the photo gallery and wallpaper sections. Most of them have new additions to both. I might add a few more Wallpapers to the Nelson and Jeanette galleries at a later date.
I'll probably get all the message board links set up tomorrow, so's I can feel accomplished. Be looking out for that and maybe even some additions to the Bob Hope tribute. Only seven more days until his 100th birthday! Yes, I'm counting down. I'm excited for him. :)
May 20, 2003
Starting off with a very special thanks to my dear friend, Kim for putting my message board up on my server and trying to help me get a greeting cards system set up again. The message board links shouldn't work at the moment from each site, but you can access the board here.
As for the greeting cards, the system is getting set-up so they WILL NOT work right now. You CAN, however, see a preview anyway of how it's going to work. I need a little technical help with this one. There will be midi's added and hopefully I can figure out forms so that there can be midis added and other fun customizations. I'm really looking forward to this, as I know it was once a very popular section on the site.
Pet peeve #243. I was just browsing around for different midi versions of "Over the Rainbow" and was wondering why people have to alter the simple melody of the music. I think in doing so you lose the meaning of the song. It's supposed to be a simple song with simple childish ideas that we all possess. The song tries to convey that feeling we all have when something goes wrong. The need to escape to somewhere other than where we are. As adults we learn that we shouldn't escape our problems, but it's still fun to slip into the childlike innocence that a great artist like Judy Garland captured until her death with this song. I love everyone who makes midis, I think when you're not around a piano and you haven't the musical gift, they are a blessing. I just wish "Over The Rainbow"could retain that special innocence that made the song -- the song of the last century.
May 17, 2003
Well, I've actually updated! :) I've been working on things here and there and still finding broken links. Please, if you find any... email me. It's hard to go through over 200 pages to search. I added three more galleries to the Judy Garland Photo Gallery.
I've been working on a lot of graphic content (image galleries and wallpaper), but I've just been too lazy (for lack of a better word) to upload any of it. If you think of something you'd like to see here, motivate me to do it by telling me what'd you're thinking. I've been thinking about radio and television sections and adding articles on my own slant on this period of Hollywood, but nothing seems to come of it yet. I've been busy walking in the shoes of these wonderful stars. Or placing my hands in cement... :D
Might do more later today, it all depends. :) Enjoy! (Oh yes, I'm going to *Bob Hope* do my little tribute to Bob Hope soon, too)
Okay, I've added more photos and wallpapers. They are under the June Allyson, Don Ameche, Dick Powell, Eleanor Powell, and Alice Faye sections. Frankly, I need to find more pictures for the others. Irene Dunne hunting, particularly, I must go. I've got a few images to scan of Rosemary Clooney and Shirely Jones and there are others I have and just haven't gotten around to fixing up yet.
Just a note, by the way, if you take images from this site and add them to your own, I know it. I crop an awful lot of the original image. If you do take images from the site, do use the principals of netiquette. It's a lot of work to build up a collection. So, I'd appreciate the credit for being the original source in some form. Let your conscience be your guide. It's one thing if you are altering the image and using it in some sort of display, but to take it straight off the page without permission or stating your sources is another all together. Got that? :) That's my little soap box complaint for the day. I've seen a few of my images around...
Okay, now on to my Bob Hope tribute and I'll take a rest for the day. :o)
Bob Hope Tribute page up. Not quite complete yet, but we're getting there... ;) [Note to self: fix corner images]
April 30, 2003
Apparently I don't know what day it is. *giggles* I just changed the two previous dates. All right, did one more thing before there's a stall here. I uploaded the expanded Don Ameche Photo Gallery. The next graphics issue on my agenda is wallpaper and I have made a lot of that all ready, so be looking for that once I get back from my excursion, too.
April 29, 2003
Well, I fixed the majority of the broken links. There are a few here and there and sections I have to overhaul. Again, have patience with me. The good news is that all the articles I've typed up are now posted. So, check out your favorite stars and read until your heart is content.
I'm going out of town for possibly two weeks, so uploads will be slow during this time... but I'm sure if things go as I hope they will, I will come back with even more content ready for viewing. I will have access to email most likely, so if you have any questions or comments I'd love to hear from you.
Hope you enjoy some of the new changes and do keep your eyes out for more. There will be extensive additions to the site over the next month and a half I'm sure.
April 28, 2003
There are tons of broken links and I'm going to try to fix this tomorrow... unless I can get my new host to change it so that I don't have to deal with the case sensive caps. ::Sigh:: That's the only drawback I've had so far. I'm excited about the new toys I get to play with. And with tomorrow, hopefully a lot more articles will be up and there are loads of them to post. Bear with me here and I promise there will be more content tomorrow.
April 19, 2003
I created a new poll for the next spotlight tribute. I won't try to sway your vote *Bob Hope* and I want you to have the opportunity to nominate whom you please for the next time around *Bob Hope*. I appreciate the time you take in voting in these polls, it's always fun to check back and see what the results *Bob Hope* are.
More content to come after Tuesday most likely, which is when I go back home for the summer. Go out and buy the Bob Hope video collection if you haven't all ready. I need to stop being lazy and link this stuff to the stores. I guess that will be my job for when I get home. Along with typing up articles and other new content. I look forward to greatly increasing the Don Ameche photo gallery. I got a collection recently *Bob Hope* of his photographs and they're beautiful. I'm so excited! Also, if you have the pocket change just laying around, but The Judy Garland Shows. The quality of Judy's voice and health for the most part are exceptional, forget the myths... these shows are brilliant and a great jewel to add to your collection. I would never promote anything that I personally didn't feel had the quality that it should. This goes above and beyond my expectations.
Okay, so here's the poll! :) You gotta get *Bob Hope* and vote!
Actually, I lied. I'm going to post a couple of June Allyson articles, too. Look out for those before the day is through.
Take care and Happy Easter to you! :)
Ginny
April 14, 2003
Well, what's new you ask? I revamped Shirley Jones' songs page. Loads of sound clips to listen to. I'll have more to come, I just need to take a break! Song clips are a lot of work.... ;)
Tomorrow I'm going to Hollywood and doing probably more than I should in general! I'm going to try to get around to everything. I might have to save some for Tuesday. First of all, going to the dedication to Bob Hope for Citizen of the Century. ::Sigh:: I love Mr. Hope. Then visiting the Margaret Herrick Library to do research and then later to go see "Meet Me In St. Louis." Apparently Sidney Sheldon will be there talking about the film. I know, I'm a brat, but I had to share all of that excitement. On top of all that, I might be visiting Hollywood Forever Cemetery. I know, sounds like a lot of fun! :)
Happy days are here again! The sky above is clear again! (Oh wait, it's been raining for hours... which means LA will be nearly smog free, wahooooo!)
Take zee care!
April 10, 2003
Where have I been in the last week and a half you ask? Going insane, but things are all better now. I am just about done with this semester and just about done with school for the year. Yes, I get out early. Wahooooo! It's been stressful, but I'm still alive and I think a little better off because of it. I'm not sure what I'd like to update next, so I think I'll take a for a bit and try to add something new later today. Just had to share my good news!!
I'm all set with a real update now. I now have, pretty Rosemary Clooney and Shirley Jones photo galleries updated. Oh yes, and five pages of galleries total.
Gotta love Shirley and Rosemary!
March 29, 2003
Guess who's been working for you (and for herself)? That'd be your webmistress of Reeljewels.com. So, I am almost perfectly proud to say that nearly the whole site is updated into the new format now. There are a few sticky spots and those are the stores for June Allyson and Dick Powell (takes forever to do on Amazon.com ::Sigh:: or I would finish it, but fortunately or unfortunately depending on the perspective, I've got a paper to write). Also, I need to re-do the Shirley Jones photo and wallpaper galleries and I'm more in a copy and pasting type mood today than an artistic one. Anything else? I guess just the honorary reeljewels section, the buddy icons are going to be a pain to fix, so it might take me a few days to get the courage to start that page. Oh yes, the "Polls" section, too.
If you happen to find any pages other than the ones mentioned that are NOT updated in the new format, would you please email me? I know some of the menus are a little weird and won't work in places, so if you run into some of those... can you tell me about that, too? :)
More new content to come in the coming weeks. I just needed to have the old stuff done before I started on new projects. ;) And I needed to feel accomplished! :)
Ooooh!! One more thing. I took the hotbars and the greeting cards links off the site. I am sorry I started with Hotbar now, when it first started it was fun, but now it's just an annoyance due to all the ads. If you have this program due to this site, I would highly recommend you uninstall it and I'm sorry if I got you onto it. The greeting cards section is down obviously due to technical difficulties, I don't think it's really worked in the past year or at least the last six months.
One more little update. The songs sections may not work and that's my next major project. I used to use the clips Amazon or other sites use to give you samples and the links change so often that I am going to have to make my own. So, if you find those situations, I all ready know about that. ;)
*Is not avoiding paper and winks to audience* Maybe during a break I'll give an idea of what I have in mind for the updates. :)
Enjoy the day!
March 27, 2003
I managed to update the Jack Haley and Dick Powell pages last night into the new format and I've added all the articles I've typed out. So, check out the article(s) I have for John Payne, Nelson Eddy, Alice Faye, Don Ameche, and Eleanor Powell.
More to come, I just have to get to typing or scanning. We shall see, the articles that I haven't done are fairly long. Lets see, what else? Does anyone have any classic film links that are their favorites? And what in Judy's name happened to the Judy Garland Database?! I hope Jim Johnson is all right. If you know, please email me! I'd really like to know... nevermind, I just did some checking and I found the link without the domain. I'm still curious though!
I've been making lots of plans for more content. I hope I can go through with them all and I hope you enjoy what this site has to offer so far. I never think it's enough! :) Even though I have over 200 pages, it just doesn't feel like there is enough information... that's what my goal is now, to provide you with the written word.
I'm going to take a short break and I'll start working on the galleries. :) Hopefully I'll be able to get them all done and I will have actually finished my update! Wahooooo!
March 24, 2003
Guess what? A little over 70 pages to do before the whole site is updated to the new format. Sounds like a lot, right? Well, I did fourty-three pages today. I'm impressed with myself. If anyone has any color pictures of Dick Powell, I'd be much obliged. I just don't have any! ::Sigh:: Now I only have Jack Haley and Dick Powell to go and most of the image galleries as well. Check out Mr. Payne, Mr. Murphy, Miss Dunne, and Miss Eleanor Powell, because I updated the majority of the pages to the new format, even though there's no new content. Hopefully, I can make that promise to you by the end of the week. And hopefully I can cut through half of the 70 pages.
Ooooh! I guess there is a new page. I did end up doing a "Ginny Meets Hollywood" page right after I announced I might! So, you can take a glance at that, if you'd like.
March 23, 2003
Guess what? I made a momentous decision. I think I'm going to continue the spotlight section on a monthly basis. My next project will be the Lane Sisters, since I've been doing a bit of research on them for my own knowledge. ::Sigh:: If you haven't seen the "Four Daughters" films, go find them. Four Daughters is the only one commercially available at the moment, but they're highly addictive. Then... for the rest of the spotlights, I'll do the votes again. I do believe that once I get everything set up into the new layout, I will add Rosemary Lane as a "ReelJewel" and with her, I will probably add one more. We shall see... :)
March 22, 2003
Okay, so we're all confused about the war. At least the media is... garsh! Getting crazy. I hope everyone is well as possible under the circumstances.
As a diversion, I have things for you to look at! :o) First of all, after all this time, I finally did the spotlight on Miss Una Merkel. I found myself going into her later films though. Very strange, I hope to add more to the page as things come to me.
What else did I accomplish you ask? I was able to go through all the Rosemary Clooney pages and update them all to the new format! Wahoo!! Very proud of that, there should be two pages lacking the new layout.

First of all, the war. Luck to the troups out there. I wish we didn't have to face this, I don't understand why there's massive bombing today when they're not sure if Saddam is dead or not, you would think they would find out the status of the regime for sure before blasting Bagdad to pieces. Only last night they were saying that there is a high likelihood that the regime is falling apart quickly. You know I'm a person who loves history and all the things that are torn to pieces are valuable to the history of human culture in their own way and now they're just shattered without much thought other than war tatics. If anyone wishes to explain this to me, go ahead and enlighten me with an email.
All right, sorry for my liberal ways there. First of all, in honor of my life right now, I offer Alice Faye and Judy Garland puzzles, which jigzone.com also offers as a greeting card. I find that pretty spiffy!
Now, here's a question and I'm just curious about public opinion here. I love films and music... you can tell that by my dedication to the site and my "ReelJewels." At a crosswords, and I was wondering how people feel about the preservation of film. Academically speaking and some of my friends are pushing me to becoming a film historian. Do you think there are more people from my generation who would dedicate their lives to films? Do you think the world needs more young film historians, that if someone like me steps down (not from doing the website, I'll keep that going as long as I can afford it) from taking leadership in keeping these films alive in vocal or written fasion? What I'm asking is, do you think the world needs another film historian to keep these wonderful people alive in popular culture?
I have multiple interests, obviously I love writing. :) I have dreams of writing books for children coming of age. I also dream of writing a book on the extraordinary lives my Grandfathers have led. More than anything, I have dreampt of making a difference, using this passion I have for teaching in order to help people learn and get through tough times.
Take the poll, what do you think the world needs of Ginny Sayre?

Hmph! A big help all of you are... my plea for support aroused no emails. BUT, I did go and meet Shirley Jones and she was awfully sweet. It pays to look a lot younger than you are sometimes. She signed one of my pictures of her and I bought the CD she was selling and she signed that, too. You have no idea how beautiful this lady's voice has become. I honestly think that Shirley Jones has the most beautiful voice of all the Hollywood leading ladies, age has only improved the depth and range of her vocal power. It's just amazing!

Don't laugh too hard, I know I'm a lobster. What do you expect? I spent the day in the desert. Oh, that's another thing. I visited Alice Faye and Phil Harris as well and gave my thanks to them. They were such wonderful people... ::Sigh::
I might have to start a "Ginny meets Hollywood" page, I'm getting quite a collection. I have to say though, that it was a thrill to meet one of my favorite performers and as you might have noticed, there are only three "Reeljewels" still with us. Hopefully sometime I'll have the chance to meet June Allyson and Jane Powell, too. ::Sigh:: They just had to move to the east coast, didn't they?
Gah, I'm still in disbelief. I met one of my heroines. Shirley and Rosemary Clooney were really the two people I looked up to most as a little girl and I have been able to see both perform. I wish I had tried to see Miss Clooney and I now regret that I didn't. Living where I do, I guess I just have to be thankful that I even have these opportunities! I really don't belong in this time... ;) As people quite willingly have told me. I do, possibly solely to keep the memories alive.
Thank you both ever so much! I know I'm thanking all the Reeljewels by keeping this site going, but I really just want to thank everyone again for giving me something to live for and something to really hold onto, as my world has not the beauty and glamour of the great classic film musicals.

Sorry for the down time. My host didn't even get back to me after I wrote them about it, kind of disgruntled about that! Good news is I got a few articles from the Margaret Herrick Library and I will post them tomorrow. If you haven't heard of the MHL and you're in the Los Angeles area or visiting, it's absolutely a must for any film fan. They have a lot of requirements to go in, like wearing gloves to look at stills and such, but the fabulous thing about that is these things are preserved. So, look for Jeanette MacDonald, Jack Haley, and Irene Dunne articles tomorrow.
Also of interest to Nelson Eddy fans, did you know that Nelson was tested with a mustache for Naughty Marietta?! I had seen stills of the wardrobe tests when I visited with a group of fellow fans last year, but I saw more this time around. Nelson was cute, even though he just isn't the type for wearing a mustache. I will post an article about that at some point, because it fascinates me so. The man is too cute, and no... I'm not... umm... in a big obsession with Nelson Eddy at this time.
Also, beware of eBay. I had an addiction to it when I first started collecting, which was about six years ago and it has come back. I just bought two magazines. I need to stop that. Anyone want to join me in eBay Anonymous?
And last, but not least... I'm sorry to say that next week there probably won't be much in the way of updates. It's my spring break and I can all ready see my family tugging at me on both ends, so I can't be anti-social. Even though, I really, really want to just sit down and watch movies all week. I have no VCR here and my film collection is at home. *sniffles* It's really painful, I do, however, have DVD's, so that's been helping me out a little bit. Plus, my laptop has been crashing.
And... if you don't hear from me for two weeks... you'll know California has fallen into the ocean. Lots of earthquakes near San Bernardino lately! We had one a couple hours ago that was 3.9. :)
The next entry was to be posted a couple days ago, but I couldn't post it due to my server being caput. *stares at infinethosting with a shrill glare in her eyes*

I thought I posted this, but I guess I didn't! Maybe it got lost between changing of update pages. Classicfilm.about.com listed Reeljewels.com as a "best of" new sites link a couple of weeks ago! *feels proud* Thank you, Brad!
Check out the current list of sites for this set of weeks. It's a lot of work to search the web for jewels and so being found and honored like this is really a treat for a webmaster.
Lets see, I've also updated the Shirley Jones and Alice Faye pages (most of the main pages anyway except the galleries) into the new format. I was going to do more today, but I just didn't get to it. Virginia Woolf got me! ;) You'll see updates here and there. I think I'll work on Don Ameche, June Allyson, and Jane Powell next because I have plenty of color pictures of them. So, be looking out for that and for more future updates with more text data. Once this update is done, I will try to have as much text as I can for you and get away from the love of graphics a little bit as I love the research just as much!

Just added another Judy cause! :o) This time the proceeds go to Broadway Cares for a beautiful little bear in a Judy pose, which has Lorna Luft's signature upon it. Yes, Ms. Lorna herself. Please visit this page and see the bear, it's absolutely gorgeus. It's that pose we've seen pictures of -- the one with Judy and flowers in the tramp costume at The Palace.
Another note of excitement... I get to see Shirley Jones perform!! How exciting is that!? ;) I hope I can meet her backstage or something. I have to will myself to do it, I'm a bit shy you know. The only reason I wish I wasn't going by myself, but I'll try and be brave -- especially if I have encouragement.

Two announcements.
The first being that I added a new section for a fellow Nelson Eddy fan which is to get New Zealand fans together! So, if you're from NZ and love Nelson, please look at this page and if you aren't from New Zealand and you love Nelson Eddy... look at this page!
The next announcement is about Miss Judy Garland. A friend of mine, a newer fan but one with her head on her shoulders, has started a petition to get Judy a special award from one of three places. Please check out my page for her and then take a nice long look at the information on her site. I hope it works, because Judy has a few awards for her voice and performances, but basically nothing for acting and I think most of you will agree with me that Judy was one of the greatest actresses to ever grace the silver screen. Judy was certainly a unique talent. I'll send my copies of her petition letter as soon as I can, you should, too!

I had lots of work to do yesterday in order to get out of town to see friends for a little bit or I would have mentioned the tragedy of yesterday. Honestly, I was clinging to the news for a goodly part of the day. One of our first dreams as a child is to touch the stars and as one has fallen, it feels
